Indications for use

The instructions indicate that the drug is highly effective against all types of worms:

  • Prescribed for mixed helminthiasis;
  • Represents good effectiveness in the treatment of giardiasis and ascariasis;
  • Gives positive results for enterobiasis, cysticercosis, microsporidiosis, trematodiasis and hookworm;
  • It is used in the treatment of helminth infestation, strongyloidiasis and trichuriasis.
  • Successfully used as an adjuvant in the surgical removal of hydatid cysts;
  • Tablets are used as a mono-therapeutic agent for hydatidosis of internal organs.

The drug can destroy several types of parasites at once. Absorption from the gastrointestinal system takes a long time, but is accelerated by intake with food. Once in the blood system, it moves to the liver gland and is converted into sulfoxide, which has anthelmintic activity.

The product is active against:

  • Ascaris and worms;
  • Pork tapeworm and lamblia larvae;
  • Helminths and echinococcosis;
  • Nekatorov and Trichinov;
  • Hookworm, strongyloidiasis and trichocephalus.

Helminth infestation causes intoxication, deteriorating health and appetite. The child becomes irritable, sleeps poorly and grinds his teeth.

Operating principle

Albendazole has the ability to influence the intestinal cells of helminths and disrupt the biochemical processes in the body of parasites, as a result of which the medicine destroys worms and some protozoa. The drug actively affects:

  • roundworms;
  • pork tapeworm larvae;
  • pinworms;
  • Ehicococcus and its larvae;
  • toxocara;
  • Giardia;
  • whipworm;
  • hookworms;
  • causative agent of strongyloidiasis;
  • necators;
  • trichinella.

The drug is capable of destroying both one and several types of helminths at once. Absorption of tablets in the gastrointestinal tract occurs slowly, but accelerates with simultaneous food intake. The bioavailability of the drug is estimated at 30%. Once in the bloodstream, albendazole is transported to the liver, where sulfoxide is formed. This metabolite also has anthelmintic activity.

After all metabolic transformations, the drug is excreted by the kidneys, but if the function of this organ is impaired, its excretion from the body does not deteriorate.

A parasitologist conducts a study of signs and tests and prescribes treatment. Duration of therapy is up to ten days. For children over one year of age, a suspension is used.
